There are over half a million South Carolinians with no medical coverage, and many more who have some coverage, but would still be bankrupted by a cancer diagnosis, a car crash, or diabetes.
Expanding Medicaid would provide relief to many of our residents at a very low cost to South Carolina: the federal government pays for 90% of the cost of Medicaid expansion.
This would also be a great boon to rural hospitals in our state, many of which are struggling financially.
This is something we should have done a long time ago, and when I’m elected it will become a top priority.
