Meet Sevi
My name is Sevi Alvarez. I'm a child of the south; I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, to a working class family. For most of my childhood, we hovered near the poverty line. When I was in my 20s, my father had a severe stroke, and I spent seven years caring for him. Eventually, we found other arrangements for him, and I was able to finish college. I got my Master's degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2015 (Go Niners!), and around that time I met my lovely wife, Liz.
We got married in 2018, and soon after, we moved to Spartanburg to be closer to my stepdaughter, Joanna, who attends Spartanburg Day School. In 2020, my wife gave birth to our son Ben, and I transitioned from accounting to being a full time stay at home dad.
In late 2022 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 intestinal cancer and I spent most of 2023 fighting it off. Today I am cancer-free and fully recovered, and I want to use my experiences as a cancer patient to create meaningful and long-lasting reforms to South Carolina's healthcare system, and create a better world for South Carolina's families.
